• It doesn’t have to breathe because the HVAC system breathes for it. The HVAC system brings the air in, dehumidifies the air, puts the air back out, and now it's conditioned air. Modern advancements in HVAC equipment have made them more effective at circulating and cycling air.
• Traditional Insulation systems have to have ventilation. That's why the soffit and your ridge vents are open so the home can bring in fresh air to help get the heat out of the attic. When you move the insulation up to the roof deck, the need for ventilating goes away because the attic becomes part of the envelope of the home.
• As we know heat rises and in a Traditional Insulation system during the winter time, the heat rises to the attic space and in turn, the heat goes right out of the house. With Spray Foam during the winter time, it traps the heat that rises to the attic in the envelope of the home so that you don’t lose it. This helps to save energy and utility costs by not running your HVAC as often during the winter.
• Fiberglass is about ventilation and spray foam is about encapsulation!

• Open cell is a sound barrier foam mainly used in residential homes, in new construction and in existing attics. 
• In addition to reducing airborne noise, it can also diminish flanking noise, which originates inside walls—an example of flanking noise is loud plumbing. It does so by tightly sealing any and every crack through which sound could travel, which effectively muffles noises to create a quieter environment. 
• Closed Cell is a moisture barrier foam mainly used in crawl spaces and metal buildings anywhere where you would have any type of moisture or condensation. 
  • Closed-cell spray foam insulation adds extra reinforcement and stability to exterior walls or stud cavities where it is applied. This assists the resistance to compression from the structural load and the resulting stresses that it creates.
  • Research conducted by the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) has shown walls installed with closed-cell spray foam have a racking strength up to 300% greater than walls without it.

• Closed Cell has 6.7 per inch 
• Spray Foam insulation doesn’t necessarily work off of R-Value. While R-value is still important, there is another factor at play. Spray Foam works using the encapsulation process. Trapping the conditioned air Inside the structure and keeping the hot/cold air outside. 
• For example, you’re building a new house with Fiberglass. If we told you we could provide maximum R-value, you’d say that’s a pretty great deal. But we’re not going to put a front door or back door on the home, how well will that R-Value work for you? When you take the cracks, crevices, and air leakage in the average home with traditional insulation, that is the equivalent of not having a front or back door installed.

• Yes and No. Spray foam costs what it should cost. Traditional insulation costs less because it has to. It is inferior to spray foam. In most cases, spray foam is double the price of traditional insulation because the foam does double the work. Fiberglass is a band-aid, it’s a temporary fix. You’ll always need to add more to your insulation over time and even so, you’ll only achieve decent results.
• The problem with less expensive traditional insulation is that you cannot stop the air traveling around and through the insulation.
• Spray Foam insulation is the air barrier that does not allow air to travel around or through it. As a customer, that allows your home to become more energy efficient, saves the life of your HVAC unit as the system isn’t running as often, and in turn saves you money every month on your energy bill.

• How thick will you spray the product?

• • • The thickness matters because the rafters must always be completely encapsulated with foam to ensure there are no thermal breaks.

• Will you give me any quality information to prove and back up the ratio mix? - How do you track your gallon counts?

• • • The gallon count is important because when Spray Foam Genie provides our ACE report stating how many gallons were used, the customer is reassured they received what they paid for. Other companies cannot do this.

• What chemical manufacturer do you use, and do you use the same chemical manufacturer for every job?

• How do you track your ratio mix?

• • Having an accurate ratio mix is important because if the product is mixed on ratio it is the highest quality product. When it is off ratio it is not mixed properly and provides an inferior product for your home.
  • Our competition may say something to the effect of “Well I’ve been doing foam for 15 years, and I can look at the product and tell if it’s off ratio.” The eye test is not an accurate representation of the ratio mix. If there was a problem with the product, the manufacturer would not stand behind the product with handwritten or eye test ratio mixes.
  • With Spray Foam Genie monitoring ratio mixed with our automated systems and algorithms, our ratio mix is proven. If a problem arises, we can prove that the foam was sprayed correctly, and find the root of the problem with the manufacturer. Other companies cannot do this.

We recommend that you vacate the residence for 24 hours, that is the recommendation for the manufacturer. It is safe to return after that recommended period and although you will still be able to smell the Spray Foam, it is not harmful.

Many variables can play into the duration of the smell, but over time it will dissipate. Just like painting your home, you can expect to smell the product for a couple of weeks after installation. It is not anything to worry about. People get used to the way their home smells and they will be able to detect even small differences in smells so the installation of Spray Foam should be expected to be noticeable for a few weeks and will begin to dissipate.

Fully encapsulating your attic will allow on average a 10-degree difference between the inside of the home and your attic. Could you imagine walking in your attic and not being hit by a wall of heat?

Yes, we can foam the existing walls in a home.

Core Filling or Slow Rise Spray Foam is used for finished walls that are closed up. It is a different process and different chemicals. Slow Rise chemical is an Open Cell product that is injected into the walls through a small hole that we drill in the walls at each stud cavity. We drill a ⅝” hole at the top of the stud cavity as well as halfway down the cavity if there are fire blocks in the wall. Some homes are built with short wood blocks placed horizontally in each stud bay about halfway up the wall. The chemical acts as a delayed reaction foam. That means that the foam does not rise immediately. That allows time for the chemicals to run to the bottom of the cavity before the reaction begins. We Cannot do Slow Rise/Core Fill in any vaulted ceilings or flat horizontal structures. Vertical walls are the only application for this.
